Abstract:

The Josephson current-phase relation for a circular orifice forming a weak-link connecting phase-biased regions of superfluid 3He-B is calculated from self-consistent numerical solutions of the quasiclassical Eilenberger theory. For mesoscopic orifices with R> 10 ξ0) dissipation onsets via phase slips corresponding to the nucleation of vortex rings at the edge of the orifice.
