Abstract:
We study the effects of the particle-hole asymmetry terms contained in the Landau-Silin equations on the collective modes of normal 3He. We find that there are no frequency shifts, first order in particle-hole asymmetry terms, of either the zero sound mode or the spin wave modes of normal 3He. Propagating spin waves cannot be excited by zero sound; but, because of particle-hole asymmetry, zero sound can drive small magnetic oscillations with frequencies ωzero-sound.
