Abstract: In 1972 Tony Leggett published his theory of the nuclear spin dynamics of the recently discovered superfluid phases of liquid 3He in Physical Review Letters. Tony’s theory was a watershed that led to a deeper understanding of spin-triplet BCS pairing in superfluid 3He, as well as unconventional superconductors discovered decades later. I highlight the key ideas of Tony’s theory of 3He, some of the implications of spontaneous symmetry breaking in 3He that are central to current theories and ideas about the topological superconductors.
